According to the study here, depression itself has been demonstrated to increase absenteeism at the work place. And when the individuals in the study were at work, they were less present than their counterparts who currently had no mental health challenges.
Now the individual is able to perform at a lesser degree when at work, but also will statistically take more time off of work.
